Cloud Computing, Hands On
In the LearnToCloud gps has a Welcome, Phases 0 through 5, and then projects. In the period since the previous lesson you have been working on one of her suggested projects to get your hands dirty, so to speak. For today we have looked at the projects section of her material, and we have chosen to take a more detailed look at one of them. She lists
- AWS Projects,
- Azure Projects,
- GCP Projects, and
- DevOps Projects
Let us spend a little time talking about your experiences with the resume project.
Since the gentle nudge of the previous lesson was towards practice on Azure, we have chosen for today to look at one alternative, also mentioned the AWS project Cloud Is Free by Yassin Dahmouni.
Let us go to Cloud Is Free and navigate from there to Projects. You will find three projects, and though the title suggests otherwise, you will see that while projects one and two are only almost free, the third project should really be free.
Some websites are, in our humble opinion, less than intuitive. So apart from the creating the free account at AWS, the setting up the hosting of a simple static website has its dark areas. I recommend a short video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCQwEVhCvTg where Lucy does it in 8 minutes.
Exercises
In Learn to Cloud, referenced above, we have Phases 0 through 5, and then projects.
- In the exercises at the end of the previous lesson, you started work on a practical endeavour related to our reference videos.
- Today, go to Projects and choose Project 3. It should be free tier only, ie cost 0 US$.
- Follow the procedure outlined in Project 3’s table of content. You may work in pairs or alone, as you find fit. Please document your work highlights in a form so that you may present it upon completion. Prepare for a 15 minute presentation and discussion.
- Without breaking your neck because of speed, we designate the remainder of todays lesson, and all of next Tuesday’s, to complete the work. Presentation and discussion of your work will be in the last lesson of this module.
